National Publication Congress (quinquennial)
National Publication Congresses were gathered in 1939. Main issues were the infra-structuring of Turkish publishing by the state and translation of World literature to Turkish. This Congress led way to the constitution of Translation Bureau in 1940’s and accelerating of the translations from Western as well as Eastern classics to Turkish between 1940’s and 1960’s.Second, third and fourth gatherings were in 1975, 1991, 1998.
For the organisation of the 5th Congress, a National Implementation Committee was structured and held responsible for the organisation of the 5th Congress in conformity with ‘governance’ perspective, following-up the implementation of this Congress decisions and ensuring the effectiveness and sustainability of this organisation. Turkish Publishers Association takes a major part in this Committee and whole organisation. Main issues discussed in the 5th Congress, gathered on 04-05 December 2009, were; adjustment of Turkish publishing sector to globalisation, postnational and transnational processes of global economy; limiting state influence and widening the share of private sector in this field; constitution of the legal structure regarding publishing with the contribution of all shareholders of the sector; ensuring freedom of thought and expression, freedom to publish; opening up of Turkish literary, cultural and artistic works to global audience; technological innovation necessitated for the global adjustment of the sector. 6th Congress will be gathered in 2015.
