Freedom of Thought and Expression Prize (annual)
Turkish Publishers Association is granting this prize with the aim of eliminating the barriers against freedom to publish in Turkey. The prize is granted to those authors and publishers who speak out their thoughts and reveal their expressions courageously and struggle towards freedom of thought and expression in Turkey to support them, to make this struggle public and to point out the necessary amendments on existing laws and procedures hindering freedom of thought and expression. Experienced independent booksellers are also granted the prize to honour their history and to support independent bookselling in Turkey.
The prize is granted since 1995 annually and a Freedom to Publish Report is announced in the prize ceremony, covering related events and data such as investigated and adjudicated books, authors, and publishers; restricting anti-democratic articles and related legal amendments of the year.
